REGIONAL EXPORT AWARD PRESENTATION FUNCTION HELD ON 1st MARCH, 2006 AT BANGALORE

SHRI B. CHANDRASEKHARAN, REGIONAL CHAIRMAN

In his welcome address, Shri B. Chandrasekharan, Regional Chairman congratulated the exporters and complimented Shri Rakesh Shah, All India Chairman for dynamic and continuous efforts taken by him for the betterment of exporters. He also appreciated the yeoman services rendered by Shri C.S. Shukla, Executive Director of the Council for the cause of export promotion.

The Governor of Karnataka desired that EEPC and the exporters should take more efforts to achieve at least 1.5% of the world exports by 2008-09. He lauded the role played by EEPC in promoting exports from the country during its 50 years of yeoman services. He was of the opinion that in this era of globalization, top priority need to be given for the promotion of exports. He also expressed that Central Government, State Governments and the Industry should jointly take efforts in nation’s image building exercise by enhancing the share of exports. He also appreciated the initiative taken by EEPC in setting up Indian Engineering Centre in Chicago which he hoped will boost our share of exports in that region. He also assured that the points raised by Shri Rakesh Shah, All India Chairman will be taken up with the Government.

Shri P.K. Dash during his address also appreciated the Council’s efforts and requested the exporters to concentrate more on ASEAN region which is going to emerge as a biggest market for export of our items. He was of the opinion that exporters should avail the right opportunities available now because of the recently concluded Free Trade Agreements with our neighbouring countires.

During his key note address Shri Rakesh Shah appreciated the efforts taken by members to achieve a remarkable growth in export of engineering goods from this region. He expressed that the export performance during the last year proved that India can be exploited as a major outsourcing hub. In fact, in the larger global arena, awareness of India’s engineering capabilities is on the rise and he also felt that the Government should come forward to address the problems relating to Fringe Benefit Tax, Service Tax, continuation of DEPB, development of infrastructures etc.
